Apprenticeship Levy – How will it work?

opengraph-image-fa1b2078c6bd52263f88d5d024ad955a

The Department for Business Innovation and Skills released a guidance document on Thursday 21st April 2016 explaining how the new Apprenticeship Levy will work for employers.

From April 2017 the government is changing the way that it funds Apprenticeships in England, by implementing the Apprenticeship Levy the government hope to raise approximately £3bn per year which will continue to fund Apprenticeships in England.

An allowance of £15,000 for employers means that the new Apprenticeship Levy will only
impact employers whose payroll bills are over £3m and will be charged at a rate of 0.5% of their annual salary bill.

The government estimates 98% of employers will be exempt from paying this charge. Employers who do not pay the Apprenticeship levy will still have access to government funded Apprenticeships. The levy will only be paid by employers whose payroll bill is over £3 million per year.

Employer National Insurance Contributions Scrapped

KM5th anniversary

The Department of Business Innovation and Skills released an announcement on the 12th April regarding Employers contributions to Apprentices national insurance.

The government has announced that Employers of young Apprentices (under the age of 25) will no longer have to pay national insurance contributions, this new change which came into effect on April 6th has been set up to save employers thousands of pounds and increase the benefits of recruiting Apprentices into their businesses.

Skills Minister Nick Boles said; “We’re making it even better value for businesses to take on a young apprentice. Businesses will no longer need to pay National Insurance contributions for apprentices under 25. Apprenticeships make sense for young people and for business. If you’re an employer not already reaping the benefits, now is the time to act.”

The national insurance change is part of the government’s commitment of reforming
Apprenticeships across the UK and their pledge to deliver 3 million high quality Apprenticeships by 2020.

opengraph-image-fa1b2078c6bd52263f88d5d024ad955a

Information about funding for degree level Apprenticeships was released on the 24th March 2016 by the Business Secretary Sajid Javid during his visit to Manchester Metropolitan
University. The new £10-million-pound fund will be used to boost the number of degree
Apprenticeships available nationwide.

Degree level Apprenticeships (which were first launched in September 2015) were designed to allow people to study higher level qualifications such as Bachelors or Masters degrees whilst working in their chosen sector.

Business Secretary Sajid Javid said; “This multi-million pound fund will go further in helping
universities and employers design new top quality degree apprenticeships and open doors to our young people”

From the new funding allocation over the next 2 years, £8m will be used to support universities and training providers to design and deliver degree level Apprenticeships whilst the remaining £2m will be used to promote degree level Apprenticeships and encourage even more young people to take up the opportunity to complete a degree level Apprenticeship.

KM candidate is a Star in the making!

KM5th anniversary

KM Recruitment are pleased to hear that one of our recent placements (Health and Social Care Assessor), recruited by KM’s very own Becky Baillie has been described as
“A STAR IN THE MAKING”.

In February 2016 our candidate was highly praised by one of his new learners who went on to
explain how they had been going through a period of low self-esteem and low confidence, but explained how one phone call from their new Assessor turned everything around

“Although I haven’t worked with my new Assessor for very long, he has done wonders for my confidence and even my family members have noticed a difference in me”

If that wasn’t enough, the Assessor continued to make a big impression with his new employer; In March 2016 he was awarded with a GRADE 1 for his Observation of Teaching, Learning and Assessment (OTLA).

We would like to pass on our Congratulations and we look forward to hearing more about his success moving forward.
